The eighth conference in the very successful KES series from KES International will be hosted by Wellington Institute of Technology (WelTec) in Wellington, New Zealand. WelTec was formed in 2001 from the combination of two academic institutions including the highly respected Central Institute of Technology (CIT) well recognised for high technology research spanning more than 20 years. WelTec is the largest technical institute in the Wellington region with more than 10,000 students every year. Wellington is New Zealand’s Capital City, the seat of Government and the nation’s cultural heart.

For information about venue, invited speakers, registration, accommodation, all local arrangements and the online paper submission and review system, consult the WelTec KES2004 web site .
We are pleased to invite papers on Intelligent Systems and Techniques, Applications of Intelligent Techniques and related areas within Information Technology, Advanced Internet Technologies as well as top leading technology fields: Evolvable Hardware, DNA Computing, Bioinformatics.
Preceding the conference will be the first NZ-German School on Computational Intelligence running (free to delegates registering for the conference) tutorials during the first two days of the conference. A Panel Discussion on Future Trends in Intelligent Technologies and Knowledge Based Intelligent Information & Engineering Systems will have Prof. Lotfi A. Zadeh as a Chairman-moderator.
The plenary sessions, and contributory sessions are focussed on the theory and applications of various intelligent techniques, including but not limited to the following topics of interest and areas of application:-
Generic Topics of Interest: Knowledge-Based Systems, Expert Systems, Neural Networks, Fuzzy Techniques and Systems, Genetic Algorithms and Evolutionary Computing, Hybrid Intelligent Systems, Intelligent Agents and Multi-Agent Systems, Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining, Machine Learning, Cognitive Modelling, Knowledge Representation and Management, Planning, Spatial & Temporal Reasoning, Knowledge Acquisition. |
Intelligent Applications: Industrial Control and Monitoring, Fault Diagnosis, Robotics, Image Processing, Machine & Computer Vision, Medical & Diagnostic Systems, Financial & Stock Market Monitoring and Prediction, Speech Processing and Synthesis, Natural Language Processing, Environmental Monitoring, Power Electronics & Drives, High Voltage Systems, Engine Control and Vehicle Applications; Signal Processing; Wavelets. |

Papers are invited from prospective authors with interests on the indicated conference topics and related areas of application. All contributions should be original and not published elsewhere or intended to be published during the review period. Contributions from more applied related fields in industry and commerce are very welcome. Details of the required paper format and submission details will be published here. All oral and poster papers must be presented by one of the authors who must register for the conference and pay the fee. To ensure high quality, all papers will be thoroughly reviewed by KES2004 Programme Committee.
The conference proceedings will be published and distributed by Springer-Verlag in Lecture Notes in AI as part of the LNCS/LNAI series.
Please refer to the LNCS Authors Instructions web site for directions on the Final Paper Format which must be strictly followed for all papers that are to appear in the proceedings.
The Editors of the Proceedings are M.Negoita, R.J.Howlett and L.C.Jain.
Please note that papers should be no longer than seven pages in LNCS format. Papers longer than this will be subject to an additional page charge. All oral and poster papers must be presented by one of the authors who must register and pay fees.
Papers for General Sessions should be entered on the online submission system via the WelTec KES2004 web site . In the case of papers for Invited Sessions, please contact the Session Chair for instructions.
Extended versions of selected papers will be considered for publication in the KES Journal (International Journal of Knowledge-Based and Intelligent Engineering Systems) published by IOS Press.
KES conferences have two types of session, General Sessions and Invited Sessions.
Papers on topics of general relevance to the conference may be submitted direct to the WelTec online submission system. These will be placed in General Sessions, which will be chaired by prominent researchers.
Invited Sessions are organised and chaired by researchers who have a special interest in the topic of the session.
Organisers of Invited Sessions undertake to:-
Researchers who would like to organise one or more Invited Sessions on topics falling within the scope of the conference are invited to submit details to the KES Secretariat. Proposals for special workshops or tutorials are also welcome.
